RIVERDALE, N.Y., February 16, 2019 – Behind a career-high 28 points from Anthony Monti, the Monroe Mustangs JV men's basketball team defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent JV, 86-82, in overtime on Saturday at the Peter Jay Sharp Center to earn their ninth American Independent Post Grad and Collegiate Conference (AIPGCC) victory.
 
Down by four at the half, the Mustangs rallied back to force overtime, outscoring the Dolphins, 36-32 in the second half to head into the extra period tied at 72.
 
In overtime, the Mustangs outscored the Dolphins, 14-10, to pick up the victory, their 17th of the season. With the win the Mustangs move to 17-7 (9-3 AIPGCC) on the season, while the Dolphins drop to 9-7.
 
Monti led the Mustangs with 28 points, shooting 58.8 percent from the floor and 54.5 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Aaron Burton recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Rakim Bryant added 14 points, and Javaughn Daniel scored 10.
 
The Mustangs are back in action on Monday, Feb. 18, when they travel to Loch Sheldrake, N.Y. to take on SUNY Sullivan JV in another AIPGCC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
