TALLAHASSEE, Fla., December 30, 2019 –
Juan Felix Rodriguez produced a season-best game to lead the Monroe College Mustangs men's basketball team to a 68-64 victory over Pensacola State College on Sunday to wrap up the Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic, hosted by Tallahassee Community College. The Mustangs improve to 11-5 on the year with the win, while Pensacola State falls to 11-6.
Rodriguez scored a season-high 32 points in the win, completing a double-double with 10 rebounds. He also had a season-high six steals in the game.
Julio Pascual added 10 points for the Mustangs, as well as seven rebounds.
Elijah Mitchell scored eight points and led the team with three assists.
Luis Herrera picked up seven points and a pair of steals.
The Mustangs' week in Florida continues with the Visit Panama City Beach Men's Basketball Classic, hosted by Gulf Coast Community College. Monroe takes on Northwest Florida State College on Monday, before wrapping up the Florida trip on Tuesday, Dec. 31, against host Gulf Coast. Monroe vs. Northwest Florida State tips off at 1 p.m. EST.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
