BLUE BELL, Pa., November 8, 2019 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball team got its season started on the right foot on Friday, defeating the Montgomery County Community College JV team by a score of 81-33 on the road. Monroe starts the year at 1-0, while Montgomery County falls to 3-1.
Jedidiah Ashton led the Mustangs with a double-double in his debut, totaling 17 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Erizander Laureano added 11 points, while both
Jerald Campbell and
Deandre Hayes registered 10 points.
Justyce Coleman picked up a team-high 14 rebounds off the bench, adding four points.
Levan Foster contributed nine points and four boards.
The Mustangs will play again on Sunday, Nov. 10, in their home opener at the Monroe Athletic Complex against Herkimer County Community College JV. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. following the Mustangs women's basketball team's contest against Westchester Community College.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 31 teams competing across nine sports. There are 19 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, has 12 teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
