BROOKLYN, N.Y., September 28, 2018 – On the backs of three multi-goal scorers, the No. 4-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team avenged a pair of 2017 losses to their rival, ASA College, Friday afternoon, rolling to an 8-1 victory over the Avengers at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Brooklyn. Monroe improves to 7-0-1 on the year, while ASA falls to 1-3.

Juliana Pires was a force to be reckoned with on Friday, scoring the first three goals of the day, and later adding two assists for an eight-point afternoon. Laia Munoz Danon finished with five points on the day, scoring twice and assisting another goal. Maria Santin picked up two more goals as well for a team-high 14 scores on the season.

Pires scored the first goal of the day at the 21:06 mark, taking a cross from Munoz Danon in the center of the box and then beating a defender to put it in and make it a 1-0 game. The game went to the half with that same 1-0 score.

Pires then got things going again in the second half, scoring on a penalty-kick opportunity in the 47th minute to make it 2-0. Pires then scored off a rebound at the 57:57 mark to complete the hat trick and put the Mustangs up by three.

Santin then got in on the action, scoring just under three minutes later off a rebound to take a four-goal advantage. Munoz Danon then scored off an assist from Pires in the 75th minute to push the lead to five. Santin scored her second of the day just four minutes later off a cross from Pires to take a 6-0 lead.

ASA then managed to score its first, and only, goal of the day when Asako Ideue put a free kick into the net to make it a 6-1 game. Munoz Danon got the goal back for Monroe shortly after, scoring off a through ball from Alba Gonzalez at the 84:31 mark to go back up by six. Kiana Leger then capped off the day with a goal from outside the box with just 36 seconds remaining to reach the 8-1 final.

Marta Alemany made one save and did not allow a goal in 75:28 between the pipes for Monroe to earn the win and improve to 7-0-1 on the season. Taylor Lewis closed out the game, playing the final 14:32 in net. Maria Cordeiro shouldered the loss for ASA after allowing eight goals and stopping six shots.

The Mustangs outshot their hosts, 23-3, on the afternoon, including a 14-2 margin in shots on goal. They also held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
