Mustangs’ JV Men’s Basketball Tops CNC Leadership Prep, Advances to AIPGC Semifinals

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., March 9, 2018 – Five players scored in double figures, including Rakim Bryant with a game-high 27, and the Monroe Mustangs JV men's basketball team topped CNC Leadership Prep, 110-63, to advance to the AIPGC Semifinal round.  
 
The Mustangs opened the game on a 9-1 run and never looked back, extending their lead with a 14-0 run midway through the half and a 17-3 run to close the first, taking a 56-19 lead into the halftime break.
 
Bryant lead all scorers with 20 points at the break, single-handedly outscoring the entire CNC Leadership Prep team.
 
Monroe continued their charge in the second half, outscoring CNC Leadership Prep 54-44 in the second half to take home a 110-63 victory.
 
Bryant led the way for the Mustangs with 27, while Isaiah Allen-Smith recorded his third career double-double, tallying 11 points and 15 rebounds.
 
Javandre House, Brian Kennedy and Marcus Thompson joined Bryant and Allen-Smith in double-figures, tallying 15, 11 and 10 points apiece, respectively.
 
The Mustangs shot 52.3 percent from the floor, and 53.5 percent from three, including 70 percent from beyond the arc in the second half.
 
Monroe also outrebounded CNC Leadership Prep 59-35, and outscored CNC, 62-28 in the paint.
 
With the win, the Mustangs advance to the AIPGC Semifinals, where they'll take on the No. 1 seed Our Saviour Lutheran on Saturday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well a\s club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
