NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., March 10, 2018 – Despite double-doubles from
Christopher Davis and
Isaiah Allen-Smith, the Monroe Mustangs JV men's basketball team fell to Our Saviour Lutheran in the AIPGC Championship Tournament Semifinals, 77-66.
The Mustangs topped CNC Leadership Prep in the quarterfinal round, 110-63, and continued their hot shooting against Falcons, opening the game on a 13-2 run.
And after Our Saviour Lutheran cut the deficit to single digits, the Mustangs went on another run, opening a 15-point lead over the Falcons with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half.
Slowly but surely though, the Falcons cut into the deficit, and tied the game at 26 with 6:02 to play.
Allen-Smith tallied the next eight points of the game for the Mustangs to bring the lead back out to five, and Monroe headed into halftime with a three-point, 38-35 lead over the Falcons.
And while the Mustangs started the second half on a 5-0 run, Our Saviour Lutheran responded to tie and take their first lead of the game with a 25-8 run, leading by 12 with 11:19 to play.
After shooting 50 percent from the floor in the first half, the Mustangs shot just 22.5 percent in the second half, and 0-for-9 from beyond the arc.
The Falcons took advantage, leading by as many as 14 with just under six minutes to play.
Monroe put together one last run, cutting the deficit to seven with under two to play, but the Falcons ended the game on a 4-0 run to pick up a 77-66 victory and advance to the AIPGC Tournament Championship.
Allen-Smith led the Mustangs with 19 points and 12 rebounds, recording his second-straight and fourth-career double-double, while
Christopher Davis tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds for his second-career double-double.
Marcus Thompson joined Allen-Smith and Davis in double figures with 12, falling a rebound shy of his sixth double-double with nine rebounds.
With the loss, the Mustangs wrap up the season 16-15 and 6-8 in the AIPGC.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well a\s club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
