NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y, February 1, 2018 – Down by two at the half, the Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team rallied back to defeat the College of New Rochelle JV, 65-62, to win their fourth-straight and move to 13-9 on the season.
After the Mustangs shot just 39.5 percent and 1-for-11 from beyond the arc, Monroe headed into the halftime break down 34-32.
But Monroe found their touch in the second half, shooting 46.7 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from three, to outscore the Blue Angels, 33-28, in the second half and come back to pick up a 65-62 victory.
Nolen Irby led the Mustangs with 14 points, 10 of which came in the second half, while
Marcus Thompson,
Rakim Bryant and
Isaiah Allen-Smith joined him in double-figures with 11, 11 and 10 points each, respectively.
Monroe outrebounded the Blue Angels, 55-34, and were led by
Christopher Davis's 13 rebounds, and
Joseph Madden Jr.'s 10.
The Mustangs will look to make it five-straight when they travel to Newport, R.I. to take on Navy Prep on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
