NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., December 8, 2018 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball team picked up its second straight American Independent Post-Grad and Collegiate Conference (AIPGCC) victory on Saturday, defeating Prestige Preparatory Academy by a score of 70-47 at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Mustangs improve to 5-3 on the year and 2-0 in conference play with the win.

The Mustangs got off to a solid start with back-to-back baskets by Aaron Burton. The Mustangs were up 11-9 before a layup by Isaiah Allen-Smith and a three from Troy Tallman made it a seven-point game. The Patriots managed to rally back, taking a 24-22 lead with 4:46 left in the first half.

The Mustangs quickly took back control of the game with four straight points from Anthony Monti, but a three by Prestige Prep's Kyle Brown put the Patriots back up by one. Monroe then scored six in a row to take a five-point advantage. With time winding down, Breizh Askew sank a layup for Prestige Prep to make it a three-point game, but Alfredo Robles nailed a jumper at the buzzer to give the Mustangs a 38-33 advantage heading into halftime.

Burton, who registered a double-double the night prior at College of New Rochelle, led the team with 12 points and seven rebounds at the half. Allen-Smith contributed seven points, while Monti and Jamal King added six points apiece.

The Mustangs made the first two buckets of the second half to take a nine-point advantage. By the 14:53 mark, the Mustangs took a 10-point advantage, and kept improving upon their lead from there. After going up 48-38 at the 13:52 mark, the Mustangs went on a 13-4 run to grab a 19-point advantage with 8:10 left to play.

Monroe kept rolling, scoring another five points to take a 66-42 lead with six minutes remaining. The Patriots scored the next three points, but another layup by Tallman made it a 25-point game with just over three minutes left. Justin Quinn made the final two points for Prestige Prep, but the Mustangs walked away with a 23-point win.

Burton led the team with 14 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double. Monti followed him with 11 points, adding a team-high five assists. King added 10 points and six boards in the win.
