NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., December 7, 2018 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball team took a short trip down the road to take on the College of New Rochelle (CNR) JV team on Friday, defeating the Blue Angels, 91-42, for an American Independent Post-Grad and Collegiate Conference (AIPGCC) victory. The Mustangs improve to 4-3 on the year and 1-0 in conference, while CNR starts its season 0-1.
Aaron Burton led the way on Friday, registering a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Anthony Monti had a strong game, scoring a team-high 16 points after going 4-for-4 from three-point range.
Jamal King scored 11 points with six rebounds off the bench.
Troy Tallman added 10 points.
Javaughn Daniel and
Luis Quinones matched for a team-high three assists.
The Mustangs return to action tomorrow, Dec. 8, when they host Prestige Preparatory Academy at the Monroe Athletic Complex in another AIPGCC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
