NEWPORT NEWS, Va., December 29, 2018 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball team wrapped up a weekend trip down to Virginia on Saturday with an 83-63 victory over Stratford University. The Mustangs improve to 8-5 overall with the win, while Stratford drops to 10-3.
Javadre House and
Javaughn Daniel matched for a team-high 15 points to lead the Mustangs to victory on Saturday.
Aaron Burton had another strong game, scoring 13 points to go with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Jamal King picked up 10 points off the bench, while
Kevin Benjamin Jr. and
Isaiah Allen-Smith matched with eight points apiece.
Monroe will play next on Saturday, Jan. 5, when they host CNC Leadership Prep in an American Independent Post Grad and Collegiate Conference (AIPGCC) matchup at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
