Monroe Mustangs Women’s Basketball Falls Late to No. 22 Harford, Will Play Hostos for Third Place at National Title IX Holiday Invitational

WASHINGTON D.C., December 28, 2018 – The Monroe College Mustangs women's basketball team fell in the second round of the 10th Annual National Title IX Holiday Invitational on Friday, dropping a 68-61 decision to No. 22 Harford Community College. The Mustangs will now take on Hostos Community College on Saturday in the third-place game, while Harford will take on Tallahassee Community College for the tournament championship. Monroe falls to 10-4 on the season, while the Fighting Owls remain undefeated at 14-0.
 
The Mustangs put in a strong effort on Friday after falling to the Fighting Owls earlier in the season by a score of 88-63. The Mustangs held a 32-28 lead at the half before Harford tied things up, 53-53, after the third. Harford rallied in the fourth to pick up the seven-point win.
 
Devon Adams had a big game for the Mustangs, registering a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Aneisha Lyons also compiled a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 12 boards. Phyness Baldwin just missed joining them with 14 points and nine rebounds. Baldwin also led the team with four assists.
 
The Mustangs will play Hostos on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for third place at the National Title IX Holiday Invitational.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
