NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., December 1, 2018 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball team wrapped up the Monroe College Invitational with a 77-37 win over the ASA-Manhattan College Mad Titans on Saturday at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
 
The Mustangs opened the game on a 15-0 run, holding the Mad Titans scoreless for just under the first nine minutes of the first half.
 
ASA-Manhattan got on the scoreboard on Quaday Brook's layup with 11:08 remaining in the half, but the Mustangs continued their run, taking a 29-11 lead into the break.
 
Isaiah Allen-Smith led the Mustangs with 11 first-half points, while the Mustangs held ASA-Manhattan to just 17.2 percent shooting from the floor.
 
Monroe continued their charge in the second half, extending their lead to 23, with a 10-5 run to open the first five minutes of the second half. The Mustangs led by as many as 46, before taking home a 77-37 victory.
 
With the win, the Mustangs move back to .500, 3-3, on the season.
 
Allen-Smith led the way for Monroe with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Jamal King added eight points and eight rebounds. Anthony Monti tallied a team-high six assists, while Aaron Burton led the Mustangs with four blocks.
 
The Mustangs are back in action on Friday, Dec. 7 when they travel down the road to the College of New Rochelle to take on the Blue Angels JV men's basketball team at 7 p.m. at the Wellness Center.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
