Mustangs JV Men’s Basketball Fall Just Short against Bryant & Stratton

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., November 30, 2018 – The Monroe Mustangs JV men's basketball dropped a close contest to the Bryant & Stratton College Bobcats, 72-70, on Friday to wrap up day two of the Monroe College Invitational at the Monroe Athletic Complex.

Led by Isaiah Allen-Smith's 14 first-half points, the Mustangs took a 40-34 lead into the locker room after a back-and-forth first half. The Bobcats led much of the way early on, but after a few ties, the Mustangs ended the half on an 11-4 run to take a six-point lead.

Monroe opened the second half on a 4-0 run to extend their lead out to 10, their largest lead of the game, but the Bobcats clawed their way back, taking the lead with 13:22 remaining.

The rest of the way, the Bobcats and Mustangs traded buckets, with neither team maintaining more than a six-point lead, before the two teams headed into the final three minutes, tied at 65.

The Bobcats opened a six point lead, and though the Mustangs were able to cut it down two on free throws by Anthony Monti and Kaynaan Longley, they weren't able to tie things up and Bryant & Stratton pulled out a two-point, 72-70, victory.

Isaiah Allen-Smith led the Mustangs with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Aaron Burton added 15 points and eight boards. Kevin Benjamin Jr. joined the duo in double-figures scoring 13 points and adding eight rebounds.

The Mustangs will look to bounce back when they close out the Monroe College Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m., taking on the ASA-Manhattan Mad Titans.
