ROCKVILLE, Md., November 10, 2018 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball dropped a 92-62 decision in its season opener on Saturday to Frederick Community College in the Mustangs' opening matchup at the Montgomery-Rockville Tip-Off Classic. The Mustangs drop to 0-1 to start the season.
Troy Tallman scored 20 points off the bench to lead the Mustangs on Saturday, making 4-of-8 three-pointers along the way.
Kevin Benjamin Jr. registered his first double-double, scoring 15 points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Kaynaan Longley narrowly missed a double-double of his own with eight points and nine boards.
The Mustangs will look to bounce back on Sunday when they take on host Montgomery College-Rockville to wrap up the weekend. Tip-off between the Mustangs and Raptors is set for 5 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 27 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's and women's rugby, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus as of the fall of 2017, has seven teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level.
