Monroe JV Men’s Basketball Drops Weekend Finally to Montgomery-Rockville

ROCKVILLE, Md., November 11, 2018 – The Monroe College Mustangs JV men's basketball fell in its weekend finale at the Montgomery-Rockville Tip-Off Classic to the host Raptors by a score of 74-59 on Sunday. The Mustangs fall to 0-2 on the young season.

Things were close off the bat, but the Raptors managed to grab a 14-10 lead seven minutes into the game. Both teams struggled to score, but the Mustangs closed the gap and made it a 16-16 game. The Raptors were able to go up by four once again, but the Mustangs managed to knot things up at 31-31 with 26 seconds left in the half, seeing the game go into the break with a tie.

Things remained close in the early goings of the second half, but the Raptors slowly started to pull away midway through the second half. A three by Montgomery's Vince Rose made it a 48-42 game, and another by Rose shortly after pushed the home team's lead to nine. The Raptors went up by 11 before the Mustangs were able to get back on the board, but the lead soon grew to 14 points. The Mustangs went back-and-forth the rest of the way with the Raptors, but ultimately fell by 15.

Kevin Benjamin Jr. and Aaron Burton shared the team lead with 13 points in the game, while Burton added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Benjamin led the team with three assists. Rakim Bryant came off the bench to score 12 points, while Javandre House added nine points with three steals.

The Mustangs get back to work on Thursday, Nov. 15, when they host New York International Academy at the Monroe Athletic Complex. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
