BINGHAMTON, N.Y, January 28, 2018 – The Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team led by 13 at the half, and pulled away in the second to defeat New York International Academy, 77-65, to wrap up their weekend road trip with their third-straight victory, moving to 12-9 on the season.
Monroe outscored New York International Academy 40-27 in the first half, and went toe to toe with the Eagles in the second, eventually pulling away with a 12-point victory.
Rakim Bryant led the Mustangs for the second-straight game, tallying 16 points, while both
Christopher Davis and
Isaiah Allen-Smith fell a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 12 and 9 points apiece.
Marcus Thompson also scored in double figures for the Mustangs, with 11 points to go along with four rebounds.
The Mustangs will look to extend their win streak to four games when they take on the College of New Rochelle JV for the second time this season on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. Monroe defeated the Blue Angels earlier this season on Sunday, Nov. 5 by the final score of 89-60.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
