Mustangs’ JV Men’s Basketball Overpowers Herkimer County JV, 72-52

HERKIMER, N.Y, January 27, 2018 – Up by five at the half, Rakim Bryant and Marcus Thompson combined for 21 points in the second half to power the Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team past Herkimer County Community College, 72-52, on Saturday at Varsity Gymnasium.
 
The Mustangs' led 35-30 at the half, but behind Bryant and Thompson's 21 in the second half, Monroe outscored the Generals 37-22 in the second half to pick up a 72-52 victory. With the win, the Mustangs move to 11-9 on the season.
 
Thompson led the Mustangs with 17 points, falling two rebounds shy of a double-double. Bryant added 14, while Christopher Davis tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
 
Monroe shot 45.5 percent from the floor, while holding the Generals to just 29.0 percent shooting and 25.0 percent from three. The Mustangs also outrebounded the Generals 52-35, and 14-4 on the offensive glass.
 
The Mustangs wrap up their weekend road trip on Sunday, Jan. 28 when they take on New York International Academy at 2 p.m. in Binghamton, N.Y., looking for their third-straight win.
 
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
