ROCHESTER, N.Y, January 26, 2018 – Behind a balanced scoring effort, the Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team topped St. John Fisher College JV, 77-67 on Friday, to move back above .500, 10-9, on the season.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early first half lead and led, 40-29, heading into the halftime break. And while the Cardinals outscored the Mustangs in the second half by a point, Monroe pulled away to pick up a 77-67 victory.
Isaiah Allen-Smith led the Mustangs with 12 points, adding five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Joining Allen-Smith in double figures were
Marcus Thompson,
Rakim Bryant,
Brian Kennedy and
Javandre House, who scored 11, 11, 10 and 10 points each, respectively.
House also added seven assists, falling three assists shy of a double-double.
The Mustangs shot 46.6 percent from the floor, and 55.6 percent from three, while the Cardinals shot 41.3 percent from the floor, but just 29.0 percent from beyond the arc.
Monroe continues their weekend road trip on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. in Herkimer, N.Y. when they take on Herkimer County Community College JV.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
