BRONX, N.Y, January 24, 2018 – The Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team fell just short against Our Saviour Lutheran Prep, falling by the final score of 91-87, and dropping to 9-9 on the season.
The Mustangs trailed 42-38 at the end of the first half, but held an 81-79 lead midway through the second half. However, the Falcons responded with an 8-3 run to take the lead with just over three minutes to play and pulled out a four-point, 91-87 victory over the Mustangs.
Brian Kennedy led the Mustangs with 28 points, while
Marcus Thompson recorded his third-consecutive double-double and fifth of the season, tallying 19 points and 16 rebounds.
Christopher Davis and
Amadou Camara also tallied double-figures for Monroe, scoring 14 and 10 points apiece.
The Mustangs are back in action on Friday, Jan. 26 when they take on St. John Fisher College JV at 3 p.m. in Rochester, N.Y.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
