NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y, January 13, 2018 – Behind a 56-point first half, the Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team raced past CNC Leadership Prep, 100-53, to move back above .500 on the season.
After opening up the game on a 7-0 run, the Mustangs blew the game wide open with a 25-3 run after CNC Leadership Prep scored their first points of the game, to take a 32-5 lead.
Following another CNC basket, the Mustangs ended the half on a 24-11 run, spearheaded by a 9-0 run, to take a 56-16 lead into the halftime break.
The Mustangs shot 59 percent from the floor in the first half, scoring 16 fast break points, 38 points in the paint and 23 points off 20 CNC Leadership Prep turnovers.
Monroe also held CNC Leadership Prep to just under 25 percent shooting in the first half, and 0-for-7 from beyond the arc.
The Mustangs opened the second half on a 6-3 run, and after weathering two small runs from CNC Leadership Prep, pulled away in the second half to take home a 100-53 victory.
Joans Gjeci led all scorers with 22 points, adding eight rebounds and two assists.
Marcus Thompson,
Javandre House,
Amadou Camara and
Christopher Davis also tallied double figures for the Mustangs, scoring 18, 14, 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Camara also tallied a double-double, adding 11 assists and five rebounds, while both Thompson and House fell a few rebounds shy of a double-double, with eight and seven rebounds apiece.
Monroe shot 54.8 percent from the floor, while holding CNC to just 31.3 percent for the game. The Mustangs also scored 37 points of 29 CNC turnovers, and scored 28 fast break points.
The Mustangs are back in action on Thursday, Jan. 18 when they take on Harcum College JV at 5 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex.

The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I).
