WEST POINT, N.Y, January 11, 2018 –
Nolen Irby and
Brian Kennedy each tallied 20-plus points, but it wasn't enough for the Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team as they fell to the Army Preparatory Academy, 92-76.
Monroe tailed 45-37 at the end of the first half before being outscored by eight in the second half, leading to the Black Knights 92-76 victory.
Irby led the way for the Mustangs with 21 points, adding five rebounds and four assists, while
Brian Kennedy also scored 20-plus with 20 points, three rebounds and two assists.
As a team, the Mustangs shot 40.5 percent from the floor and 38.1 percent from beyond the arc, while the Black Knights shot 51.6 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from three.
The Mustangs will look to get back above .500 when they take on CNC Leadership Prep on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Monroe Athletic Complex.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
