New Rochelle, N.Y. – Three members of the Monroe College Men's Basketball team scored in double figures as the Mustangs fell to ASA, 77-74, on Tuesday. Monroe is now 18-8 on the season.
The game was back and forth in the first eight minutes of play.
Hampus Ahlin broke a 15-15 tie with a three-pointer at 11:38. The Avengers regained the lead and held it for the next five minutes, until a
Tyler Ancrum steal and layup put Monroe up 25-24 with 6:33 remaining. A subsequent three-point-play from
Bryan Assie put the Mustangs up 28-24. A
Damont Kearse Jr. layup gave Monroe a 37-36 lead at the half.
ASA took control early in the second half and built a five-point lead.
Jarron Chapman cut the deficit to two points on a trifecta that made the score 42-40. Later, a steal by Assie led to a
Clifton Tracey bucket that gave Monroe a 44-42 lead.
The Avengers eventually pushed their lead back to ten points, but Monroe got within two points on a pair of
Dani Koljanin free throws inside of a minute. ASA went on to win, 77-74.
Ahlin and Assie led the Mustangs with 16 points each. Koljanin finished with 11. The Monroe College Men's Basketball team will return to action on Thursday, hosting LaGuardia Community College at 6:30 PM.
