WAYNE, Pa., December 8, 2017 – Led by
Nolen Irby's season-high 22 points, the Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team defeated Eastern University JV, 74-66 on Friday night.
Though the Eagles shot 50.0 percent from the field, Monroe took a 9-point, 43-34, lead into halftime and held on in the second half for the victory.
Eastern University JV outscored the Mustangs, 32-31, in the second half, but the halftime deficit proved to be too much for the Eagles and the Mustangs earned their sixth victory of the season.
Led by Irby's 22, the Mustangs shot 48.1 percent from the field, and 38.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Brian Kennedy and Christopher Davis joined Irby in double-figures, tallying 14 and 11 points respectively.
Though the Eagles did shoot 50 percent, Monroe held Eastern University JV to 10 fewer shots, and forced 23 turnovers. The Mustangs also outrebounded their opponent by four.
The Mustangs continue their weekend road trip, heading to Harrisburg, P.A. to take on Harrisburg Area Community College on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
