HARRISBURG, Pa, December 9, 2017 – Behind a 50.9 percent shooting performance, the Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team topped Harrisburg Area Community College, 77-61 on Saturday.
The Mustangs raced out to 39-26 halftime lead, led by Isaiah Allen-Smith's 13 first-half points. Allen-Smith would add seven points in the second half to lead Monroe with 20, and the Mustangs took home a 16-point victory over the Hawks.
Nolen Irby and
Brian Kennedy joined Allen-Smith in double-figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Christopher Davis led Monroe the glass with 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards.
Not only did Monroe shoot over 50 percent, they also held Harrisburg to just 31.7 percent shooting while outrebounding the Hawks, 43-24.
The Mustangs' wrap up their weekend, Pennsylvania road trip and return to Staten Island, N.Y. to take on CNC Leadership Prep on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of Monroe's Bronx campus has six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning with their inaugural seasons in the fall of 2017.
