NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y, December 2, 2017 – The Monroe Mustangs' JV men's basketball team fell to Navy Prep, 84-67, on Saturday.
The Rams opened the game with a 13-0 run, jumping out to an early first-half lead against the Mustangs. And while Monroe was able to battle back throughout the first half, the Mustangs trailed by 14, 38-24 at the half.
And while the Mustangs cut the deficit down to 10 midway through the second half, Navy Prep weathered the run and roared ahead, leading by as much as 24 with 3:41 to play and taking home an 84-67 victory.
Christopher Davis led Monroe with 15 points, falling a rebound shy of a double-double, while Rakim Bryant and
Nolen Irby joined Davis in double figures, with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Joans Gjeci led the Mustangs on the glass with 11 boards, while Irby led the team in assists with eight.
Monroe shot 39.1 percent from the floor, but couldn't find their range from beyond the arc, shooting just 15.8 percent from the three-point line.
The Mustangs head to Wayne, P.A. to take on Eastern University on Friday Dec. 8 at 7 p.m., opening a two-game, weekend road trip to Wayne and Harrisburg, P.A.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
