NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., November 5, 2017 – The Monroe Mustangs JV men's basketball team topped the College of New Rochelle JV men's basketball team, 89-60, Sunday at the Monroe Athletic Complex to move to 2-0 on the season.
Midway through the first half, the Mustangs and Blue Angels stood tied at 10, before Monroe doubled-up the College of New Rochelle the rest of the way to take a 42-26 lead into halftime.
From the 15:03 mark of the first half till the teams headed into the locker room for the break, Monroe outscored CNR, 32-16, led by eight points from Rakim Bryant. Bryant finished the day with 17 points, one of four Mustangs in double figures against the Blue Angels.
The Mustangs extended their lead out to 32 midway through the second half, eventually pulling away with a 29-point victory over the Blue Angels to move to 2-0 on the season, while the College of New Rochelle JV fell to 0-1.
For the second-straight game, Monroe tallied a double-double as Joseph Madden Jr. led the Mustangs with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, 13 rebounds, an assist and two blocks in just 22 minutes.
Isaiah Allen-Smith and
Brian Kennedy joined Bryant and Madden Jr. in double figures for the Mustangs, with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Christopher Davis joined Madden Jr. with double-digit rebounds, totaling 10, but fell three points shy of a double-double. Amadou Camara led Monroe with seven assists.
The Mustangs shot 50 percent from the floor against the Blue Angels, while holding the Blue Angels to just 28.9 percent shooting for the game.
Monroe continues their 2017-18 schedule when they travel to Upper Marlboro, M.D. to take on Capital Christian Academy on Friday, Nov. 10 as 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
