15 Mustangs Selected to All-Northeast Football Conference Team

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., November 21, 2017 – 15 members of the Monroe College football team were announced as selections to the 2017 All-Northeast Football Conference Team on Tuesday, including seven First-Team honorees.

Linebacker Levi Shockley becomes a two-time All-NEFC Team member, moving up to the First Team after being a Second-Team selection a year ago. Shockley was impressive in his six games this season, making 30 tackles, including three behind the line of scrimmage, and breaking up four passes. Dejohn Rogers joins him on the First Team, and was picked both as a defensive back and as a return specialist. Rogers led the Mustangs with three interceptions on the season, added a pair of pass breakups and a fumble recovery. He also averaged 26.31 yards per kick return, 15 yards per punt return, and picked up both punt-return and kick-return touchdowns back in Monroe's Week 4 matchup at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.

Linebacker Clayton Glasco and defensive lineman Richard Butler also join Shockley and Rogers on the First-Team defense. Glasco was once named the NEFC Player of the Week this season and led the Mustangs with 75 total tackles this year, adding an interception, 10 tackles for loss and a pair of blocked kicks. Butler led Monroe with four sacks and 13 tackles for loss in 2017, adding 30 tackles on the year. Leoandro DeBrito also finds himself on the First Team after playing well at the safety position and also taking over as the Mustangs' punter. He finished with 31 total tackles, a sack, an interception and four pass breakups.

The Mustangs had a pair of offensive linemen make the First-Team offense in 2017. David Harris and Austin Stout provided consistency in the trenches for the Mustangs throughout the season, and helped the team to a conference-best 179.4 rushing yards per game.

The Mustangs landed five offensive players on the Second Team this season. Quarterback Sean Kelly made seven starts, throwing for 1,104 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also rushed 42 times for 106 yards and scored a team-high seven touchdowns. Rasheed Martin joined Kelly after rushing for 526 yards on 86 carries, scoring four touchdowns, while catching 14 passes for 96 yards and another score.

Wide receiver Shea Holbrook also made the Second Team, leading the Mustangs with 449 receiving yards and 23 receptions. He finished the year with four touchdowns. Tight end Victor Mintz caught eight passes for 107 yards and a touchdown, and was an exceptional blocker, helping him make the Second Team for the first time. Offensive lineman Justus Martinez joined them on the Second-Team offense as well after fortifying a solid line for the Mustangs.

Defensive lineman Lloyd Jackson made 23 tackles, including six for loss and 3.5 sacks, and was a driving force behind the Mustangs' No. 1-ranked run defense. Linebacker Tyrik Glenn was once picked as the NEFC Player of the Week and tied with Jackson for second on the team with 3.5 sacks on the year. He also provided 10.5 tackles for loss, had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Defensive back Quirinius Wilson Jr. tied for a team-high with four pass breakups this season, also making two tackles for loss and 28 total tackles, earning him a spot on the Second Team as well.

The Mustangs enjoyed plenty of success in 2017, going 8-2 while spending time ranked in the NJCAA Football Rankings throughout the season, reaching as high as No. 15. Monroe finished the regular season with the top-ranked run defense in the country, allowing just 43.1 yards per game on the ground. The Mustangs also finished second in the NJCAA in scoring defense, yielding just 10.8 points per game to opponents.
