BALTIMORE, Md., November 17, 2017 – The Monroe College men's basketball team dropped its first decision of the season on Friday, falling to Chesapeake College, 75-68, on the first day of the Baltimore City Community College Tournament. Monroe falls to 2-1 on the season, while Chesapeake improves to 2-3.
Isaiah Ward led the Mustangs with 16 points, while Thomas Binelli and Damont Kearse contributed 11 and 10, respectively. Bryan Assie added eight points and a team-high six rebounds. Ward and Jhery Matos each dished out a team-high three assists. The Mustangs shot 42.6 percent from the floor on 29-of-68 shooting.
The Mustangs continue their weekend in Baltimore on Saturday, Nov. 18, when they take on Richard Bland College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM AT MONROE COLLEGE
The athletic program at Monroe College encompasses a total of 26 teams competing across nine sports. There are 18 varsity and junior varsity programs, as well as club men's rugby, and the newly added club women's rugby team, competing on the New Rochelle campus as the Monroe Mustangs (NJCAA Division I). The Monroe Express, based out of the Bronx campus, will have six teams competing at the NJCAA Division III level beginning in the fall of 2017.
