ROCKVILLE, Md., November 12, 2017 – The Monroe Mustangs JV men's basketball team dropped a close one to CCBC-Dundalk, 78-70, Sunday night in the Montgomery College Tip-Off.
An early 6-0 run gave the Mustangs a 16-10 lead in the first half against the Lions and after going back-and-forth the rest of the way, Monroe took a 37-35 lead into halftime.
But the Lions responded by opening the second half with a run of their own, taking the lead and extending it all the way out to 16 with 10:02 to play. Monroe battled back, cutting the deficit to single digits with just under two minutes to play, but the 16-point deficit proved to be too much, and CCBC-Dundalk held on for an eight-point, 78-70 victory.
Four Mustangs totaled double-figures in scoring, led by Isaiah Allen-Smith's 12 points.
Nolen Irby, Joshua Washington and
Brian Kennedy added 10 points apiece for Monroe, while Joans Gjeci led the Mustangs on the glass with seven rebounds.
The Mustangs shot 34.6 percent from the floor, but were outshot by the Lions, who shot 41.4 percent from the field.
Monroe returns home to the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, N.Y. to take on Woodstock Academy on Satuday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m.
