Mustangs JV Men’s Basketball Falls to Montgomery College, 95-88

ROCKVILLE, Md., November 11, 2017 – The Monroe Mustangs JV men's basketball team fell to Montgomery College, 95-88, Saturday night in the Montgomery College Tip-Off.

Monroe and Montgomery traded buckets early on in the first half before the Raptors used a 15-5 run to take a 22-14 lead midway through the first half. The teams traded runs over the rest of the way in the first half, and the Mustangs trailed by four, 47-43, heading into halftime.

In what was a game of runs, Monroe came out with a big one to open the second half, turning the Raptors' 47-43 halftime lead into a Mustangs' lead, 68-60 with 11:05 to play. Over the first 8:55 of the second half, the Mustangs outscored the Raptors by 12 with a 25-13 run.

Sparked by Isaiah Allen-Smith's 12 second half points, and 53.6 percent shooting from the floor for the Mustangs, Monroe took their first lead of the game with 14:07 to play in the second half.

But once again, the Raptors followed the Mustangs' run with one of their own, taking the lead with 8:48 to play and never relinquishing it the rest of the way.

Montgomery College followed the Mustangs' 25-13 run with a 23-6 run of their own to take an 83-74 lead with 4:25 to play. And while the Mustangs were able to cut the deficit to just three with just under two minutes to play, Montgomery held on for the 95-88 victory.

Isaiah Allen-Smith led the Mustangs with 18 points, while Marcus Thompson and Brian Kennedy added 16 and 14 points, respectively, off the bench for Monroe. Nolen Irby and Christopher Davis also joined Allen-Smith, Thompson and Kennedy with double-digit scoring efforts, with Irby totaling 10 points and Davis 12.

Monroe wraps up their three-game weekend road trip with their final game of the Montgomery College Tip-Off on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. against CCBC-Dundalk.
