Middletown, N.Y. – The Monroe College women's basketball team picked up its second-straight win on Tuesday night when they prevailed 65-55 over Orange County College in a game played in Middletown, New York. The balanced scoring attack saw four Mustangs reach double-figures in scoring.
Monroe was undermanned in this game as
Breanna Dennis was unavailable due to an injury sustained in Sunday's win. The Mustangs came out strong, taking a 22-8 lead after one quarter of play. They led by as much as 14 points in the quarter and were paced by
Gabrielle Jubinville (six points) and
Camilla Kilinc (five).
A layup from Jubinville with three minutes remaining in the second quarter put Monroe ahead, 40-21. The 19-point cushion was their largest lead of the half. They led at the break, 40-25.
The third quarter saw more offensive production from Monroe as the team pushed the advantage past the 20-point plateau.
Destini Green got in on the act with a three-pointer with 1:22 left that gave the Mustangs their largest lead of the game, 25-points, when the bucket made the score 60-35. They led after three quarters, 60-37.
The fourth quarter saw Orange County mount a large comeback. They got within ten points, but couldn't get the deficit into single digits as Monroe hung on for a 65-55 triumph.
In the win, Jubinville had a game-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Kilinc added 16 on 4-9 shooting from behind the three-point line. Green finished with 14 points and seven assists.
Fatoumata Coulibaly had 11.
Kaleah Norwood collected seven steals.
The Monroe College women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 13, when they host Lackawanna College at 1PM. Their sophomore day will take place on Sunday against Dean.
