New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Men's Junior Varsity Basketball team got a pair of double-figure scoring outputs from Damont Kearse, Jr. and
Mario Hernandez over the weekend. Kearse scored 16 points against Army Prep and added 22 against Navy Prep, while Hernandez chipped in with 13 against both schools.
The Mustangs fell at West Point on Friday, 70-57. They led at the half, 31-22, thanks to a late rally.
Andre Morgan made a layup with 0:38 left to give Monroe the nine-point cushion.
The Monroe shooting went cold in the second half, and the Black Knights took the lead for good at the 17:25 mark. They went on to win, 70-57. In the game, Morgan finished with nine points on 4-7 shooting.
Ismeill Etienne and Hernandez scored the first two baskets against Navy Prep on Sunday to put Monroe up 4-0. A pair of foul shots at 15:28 broke an 8-8 stalemate and gave the Midshipmen the lead for good. They pushed the advantage to 16 points at the half, 46-30.
Monroe fought hard in the second half, but got no closer than ten points on a pair of Kearse free throws inside of a minute remaining. Navy Prep went on to win, 80-69.
Tony Morales came off the bench to score 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting and grab eight rebounds.
The Monroe College JV Basketball team is now 4-2 on the season. They will return to action on Friday, December 9
th, against Our Saviour Lutheran in the Bronx at 6:00 PM.
