Montgomery, Md. – After a perfect weekend, the Monroe College Women's Basketball team has an 11-4 record, already surpassing the 10 total games they won in their previous season. The Mustangs defeated CCBC Dundalk, 116-41, and came out ahead against Montgomery College, 73-65.
The Mustangs took control against the Lions early in the game and never looked back. The 75-point margin of victory broke the team's previous record of 63 points, set on January 12, 2013 against UConn-Avery Point. The 116-point score also marks the first time this season the Mustangs broke the century mark.
Shania Johnson was the offensive star, posting a triple-double with 38 points, 15 assists, and 12 steals.
Camilla Kilinc added 28 points, while
Jada Banks had 18 and
Lisana Burnett had 16.
Cristina Soriano and
Fatoumata Coulibaly pulled down 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively.
In the game with Montgomery College, Soriano had a double-double, while Banks, Johnson, Coulibaly and
Jessica DeGree reached double figures in scoring. Monroe had a halftime lead, which they extended to eight points in the third quarter, and held on for the 73-65 win.
The team will return to action on December 29th with a pair of games at Florida Southwestern State College.
