New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Monroe College Junior Varsity Basketball team forced 24 turnovers en route to a 71-56 victory over Liberation Prep on Saturday. The team improved to 4-0 on the season with the victory.
The Mustangs took control of the game early on, taking a 5-0 lead on a three-pointer from
Tony Morales and a bucket by
Andre Morgan. The lead reached double-digits at the 11:52 mark, on a layup from
Mahmadou Fofana that made the score 18-8. A Damont Kearse layup at 3:14 gave Monroe its largest lead of the half, 15-points, at 33-18. The score was 33-24 at the half.
Liberation fought back in the second half and got as close as seven points, but no closer. The lead grew as high as 16 points for Monroe on a Morgan foul shot at 9:22. The Mustangs won 71-56.
Kearse finished with 20 points on 4-6 shooting in the win.
Mario Hernandez totaled 13 points. The Mustangs outscored Liberation 32-12 in the paint, and scored 26 points to Liberation Prep's 10 off of turnovers.
The Monroe College JV Basketball team will return to action on Friday, December 2
nd, against the United States Military Academy Prep team in West Point, New York.
