New Rochelle, N.Y. – The Monroe College junior varsity basketball team lost its opening round game in the 2015 Monroe Invitational on Saturday in New Rochelle, when they were defeated by Navy Prep, 78-65. The team's three-game winning streak is over.
Four Mustangs finished in double-figures in scoring, led by
Jason Barrera's 16 points on 6-10 shooting.
Antoine Lewis totaled 14 points,
Justin Wilson scored ten and
Merault Almonor put in 13 points. The Mustangs had a five-point lead at two different points in the first half, but the Midshipmen led at the half, 37-34.
The second half saw Navy Prep push their lead to 14 points. Monroe fought back and got as close as four points, but fell in the end, 78-65.
The Monroe College JV team returns to action on Sunday, November 22, when they host Prestige Prep in Day Two of the Monroe Invitational. The jump ball is slated for 4:00 PM.
