Monroe wins on 'Think Pink' night

Advance in poll to #12

The Monroe Mustangs women's volleyball team hit a high note with their fourth annual 'Think Pink' night and soon after they moved a notch lower on the national poll because of their excellence on the court.  A day after defeating Nassau 3-0 to increase their remarkable win-streak to twenty matches, nineteen by shutout (57 sets), the NJCAA released their weekly rankings and it showed that Mornoe had moved up the national poll one notch to #12.  Their season record is an impressive 26-2.

"This was a good night for us," said Coach Nephtali Delgado Reyes.  "We won the match with some strong play and also we did something that's important to the girls and that is bond together for a good cause.  It's really the best of what college sports is all about."

In their annual effort to raise funds and awareness in the fight against breast cancer, the Mustangs warmed up in pink t-shirts, dressed in pink socks and hair ribbons and sold pink socks and hats, as well as passed around a pink bucket to collect money.

In the match, Monroe overwhelmed Nassau 25-12, 25-9, 25-8.  Sophomore Shaybree Davis led Monroe with 11 kills in 16 attacks (6.25).

After the match the Mustangs met with the volleyball team from In Tech Academy in the Bronx to talk about college athletics and the importance academics plays in the life of a student athlete.
