The Monroe Mustangs volleyball team continued its incredible run of victories with a pair in Rhode Island. On Saturday the Mustangs handily defeated CCRI (25-12, 25-15, 25-14) and Bunker Hill (25-13, 25-13, 25-14) 3-0 to bring their unbeaten string to 22 matches, a stretch that incudes 21 shutouts, 63 consecutive sets. They're now 28-2 on the season.
"We're not counting," said Coach
Nephtali Delgado Reyes. "What we're trying to do is play consistently well and improve our game so as we get to playoff time we will be at the top of our game. If we're in the habit of winning, then, well, obviously, that's good, too."
Against host CCRI, Monroe's front line of Brazilian freshman
Barbara Maximiano, Puerto Rican ophomore
Lee Ann Ocasio, and Floridian freshman
Ashley Ramos was nothing short of devastating. Together they combined for 20 kills. Maximiano had the best percentage, .500.
Puerto Rican sophomore
Edmarie Freytes who leads the NJCAA in aces (Ramos is sixth,
Nelmarie Cruz is seventh, and
Indira Rojas is twelfth), had five against Bunker Hill to go along with her 17 assists. As a team, Monroe is the NJCAA leader in service aces.

On Sunday, the Mustangs rode the Monroe College float in the Hispanic Day Parade on Fifth Avenue.
