Orlando, Fla. – Ask anyone on the Monroe College campus if they were surprised whenformer soccer standout,
Carol Rodrigues landed a bicycle kick goal on ESPN and other national media highlight reels, and they will tell you she was a top player during her time on campus in New Rochelle before moving on to Central Florida.
In a game for the Knights over the weekend, Rodrigues scored a highlight reel goal when she flipped the ball up in the air to herself and scored on a bicycle kick (check out the goal on ESPN's
Top 10 Plays of the Day and the
Top Plays of the Weekend). To be sure, Rodrigues had nearly accomplished this same feat earlier in the weekend, had it not been for a stingy goalkeeper. In fact, the former Monroe standout has nine goals including this most recent one, which turned out to be the game winner.
After the national media got hold of the video, (
FOX SPORTS,
ORLANDO SENTINEL and
TOPDRAWERSOCCER), a couple of professionals took notice. The
Orlando City Soccer Club of the MLS
tweeted that is was a top play of the day. Former World Cup star, Mia Hamm, also
tweeted on the play.
Rodrigues was a member of the Monroe College women's soccer team for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. It was Rodrigues whom scored the game-winning goal for Monroe in the 2014 National Championship game en route to earning All American status at season's end. The native of Juaziero, Brazil played on the U17 and U20 Brazilian national teams.
