Dean O'Leary

Dean O’Leary joined Monroe’s women’s soccer program in 2014. As Assistant Coach, he works closely with Head Coach Garbar, focusing primarily on student-athlete training, game management of the team goalkeepers, and tactical gameplay analysis.

Coach O’Leary was a member of the coaching staff that saw Monroe’s team win the championship title at Nationals in 2014 and place among the top three teams in the country in 2015. Twenty of the team's student-athletes have advanced to NCAA programs over the last three years, most to Division 1 programs, outpacing every other NJCAA program during that same period.

Coach O'Leary holds coaching qualifications from the USSF, UEFA (B License) and the NSCAA (Advanced National and National Goalkeeping Diploma, Director of Coaching Diploma).

Coach O’Leary has an extensive coaching career to date, coaching at the highest levels within US Soccer. Prior to joining Monroe’s program, he spent the previous three seasons coaching at the NCAA division 1 level with the Men’s soccer program at Manhattan College. During his first year there, he helped the Jaspers to a 5-3-2 conference record in 2013 and a top-four seed in the MAAC tournament for just the fifth time in the program’s history. It was the first time Manhattan reached the post-season tournament under the four-team format since 2001, and the 17 conference points scored set a new program high.

A long time club coach, Coach O’Leary has demonstrated consistent success across multiple teams. At Match Fit Chelsea FC in Mercer County, NJ, he led the senior boys squad to the semifinals of the Disney Showcase in both 2010 and 2011, ultimately winning the tournament in 2012. Leading the U17 & U18 teams with Match Fit, Coach O’Leary’s teams also won elite showcase events Jefferson Cup Showcase and PDA College Showcase in 2012 while reaching the semifinals of the Super Y League National tournament.

In addition to his club commitments, O'Leary was also an assistant coach for the program's US Development Academy teams. From 2007 to 2010, Coach O’Leary was the Director of Goalkeeping at the Soccer Domain Academy in Montclair, NJ, coaching a number of high-level goalkeepers that played at high-level collegiate programs; several represented their national teams at various levels.

Coach O'Leary is also responsible for the Match Fit Academy U20 and U23 men’s summer program, which provides high-performing collegiate players the opportunity to play and train during the summer months. More than 40 players were enrolled in 2016, its second year of operation.

Prior to starting his coaching career in 2005, Coach O’Leary spent five years as a professional and semi-professional player in his native England, playing at the most senior levels of youth and semi-professional soccer in the United Kingdom.
