Jennifer "Jen" Mata, MS, ATC is a certified athletic originally from Connecticut. She has a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Sacred Heart University and graduated May 2024. BOC Certification and has a Criminal Justice degree along with a minor in Computer Science. This gives her an edge in documentation and analysis.
Jen currently works as an athletic trainer with Monroe University Athletics where she is the head of on-field care, managing post-practice recovery set-ups, and overseeing long-term rehabilitation for numerous student athletes. She has also worked with the Sacred Heart University Division I women's wrestling and men's volleyball teams where she was active in running dermatological screenings, assessments on injuries like AC joint sprains and herniated discs, treatment options, including therapeutic modalities like electrotherapy and cryotherapy, and tackling medical documenting.
Previously, Jen completed rotations at Brunswick School, Fairfield University, and New Canaan High School where she has been exposed to sports like football, squash, basketball, softball, and cross country. During these experiences, she has completed concussion assessments, utilized universal coverage techniques such as manual therapy, and created rehabilitation plans for surgical and non-surgical cases.
Her drive for maintaining athlete health, confidence, and readiness to compete is at the forefront of what she does. Whether she is providing care for one of her teams, she values articulating her care in a manner that leaves little to be misinterpreted for all those involved, leading by example with her own discretion while using evidence-based and best practices to provide care.
Jen currently works with women’s soccer and baseball at Monroe.
Jen is a big fan of reading and podcasts, with her favorite podcast being the Reddit Reading Podcast. Her favorite food is potatoes in any form. She is a big fan of the Jersey Shore and loves cats.
