PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Monroe University football team (1-2 overall) fell to Pace University (1-1 overall), 59-3 in the Inaugural Westchester Gridiron Classic on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· In the first quarter, Pace put up the first points on the board after a 21-yard touchdown pass, giving them a 7-0 lead.
· With 00:38 left in the first quarter, Pace scored a one-yard rushing touchdown to extend their lead to 14-0.
· Early in the second quarter, Pace added to its lead with a 48-yard touchdown pass. Making it 21-0 with 14:01 remaining in the quarter.
· At 09:13, remaining in the second quarter, Pace added 3 to their lead after making a 32-yard field goal, putting them ahead 24-0.
· The Mustangs got on the board with 02:42 remaining after Dimitri Grieb's 27-yard field goal, cutting Pace's lead to 24-3.
· In the final 00:28 in the first half, Pace answered back and added another seven to the scoreboard after an 80-yard touchdown pass, giving them a 31-3 lead going into halftime.
· In the third quarter, the Setters scored a one-yard rushing touchdown with 9:27 remaining, extending their lead to 38-3.
· With 01:37 left in the third quarter, an 89-yard touchdown pass gave Pace a 45-3 lead.
· Pace added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. At 14:55, a 6-yard touchdown pass extended Pace's lead to 52-3. A 28-yard touchdown pass made at 12:39 secured Pace's 59-3 victory.
STATS AND NOTES
· This was the first Gridiron Classic in history, giving Pace a 1-0 record against the Mustangs.
· This is the second time this season the Mustangs have been held to three points.
· The last time the Mustangs had an opponent score 50 points or more on them came on November 9, 2024, against Snow.
· It was the first time in 20 games that the Mustangs had given up 50 points in a game.
· Monroe was held to just 110 yards of offense, with quarterback Zavry Ward throwing for 83 yards on the day as he went 9-15.
· It's the eighth time in his career he hasn't thrown an interception in a game.
· Benogo Diaby tallied a career-high eight tackles in the loss.
