SCRANTON, Pa.–The Monroe University women's volleyball team (1-0 overall) captured its first win of the 2026 season with a 3-1 victory over Lackawanna (0-1 overall) on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
·     After the Mustangs jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first set, Monroe went on a 6-0 scoring run to take a 9-2 lead.
·     The Mustangs held Lackawanna to just eight points in the first set as the Mustangs ended the opening set tallying six points while holding Lackawanna to just two to win the set 25-8.
·     In the second set, Lackawanna answered back by squeaking out a 25-21 set victory off a final kill by Regan Freas to even the match at 1-1.
·     The Mustangs recovered in the third set, taking the set 25-17, as the Mustangs scored the final six points in a row, which included three kills by Adriana Garcia.
·     The fourth set was the final blow to the Falcons as the Mustangs downed Lackawanna 25-15 with the Mustangs firing seven service aces and 10 kills.
·     Alisha Pereira Rodriguez-Wells had four of the six service aces in the set.
STATS AND NOTES
·     Monroe leads the all-time series with Lackawanna 7-0.
·     It's the first four-set game the Mustangs have had against the Falcons in program history.
·     Thais Chantal Cocly Vasquez and Rodriguez-Wells each led the Mustangs in kills on the day with 10 each.
·     Rodriguez-Wells tallied a single-game high of six service aces on the day. She surpassed her four that she had against Delaware Technical CC on October 18, 2025.

·     The Mustangs return to action on Thursday, September 3, when they host Mercy University. Game-time is set for 7:00 p.m.
