NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Monroe University-New Rochelle women's soccer team is set to begin its 2026 season against the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday at 2:00 pm.

"I think there's a lot of excitement around this season because we're going to be challenged differently," said head coach Jonathan Avila. "Playing an NCAA Division II schedule gives us an opportunity to see where we stand against some powerful programs, and that's something our players are really looking forward to. We're excited for the competition, excited for the opportunity, and ready to embrace the challenge that comes with playing at this level."

The Mustangs return just five student-athletes to their team from last season, including goalkeeper Magdalena Syrek, defender Valentina Londono, defender Joselyn Chinchilla Avila, defender Sharley Temple, and forward Silberia Cuautencos. The Mustangs mainly enter the season with 21 brand new players to the team, including nine freshmen from Poland.

The Mustangs start the season with five straight road games before returning home on Saturday, Sept. 26, when they host Holy Family at 1:00 p.m.

The Mount Saint Vincent team is heading into the 2026 season with a seasoned squad, featuring ten seniors. Last season they finished with a record of 13-4-2 before falling to St. Joseph's Long Island in the Skyline Conference Final 2-1.
