SCRANTON, Pa.–The Monroe University softball team (8-6 overall) split their double-header against Lackawanna (4-3 overall) on Sunday afternoon. The Mustangs fell in the first game 4-5 and won the second game 12-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
·     Lackawanna opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning off an error by the first baseman to give them a 1-0 lead.
·     In the top of the fourth inning, McKenzie Williams singled to left field, which scored Veronika Anderson to even the score at 1-1.
·     Lackawanna added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off a double to give them a 3-1 lead.
·     In the top of the fifth inning, Anderson ripped an RBI double, scoring a pair of runs to even the game at 3-3.
·     In the bottom of the sixth inning, an RBI double by Lackawanna would give them a 5-3 lead heading into the seventh inning.
·     Williams would get hit by a pitch, scoring a runner from third to cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the seventh, but the Mustangs couldn't score another in the inning, resulting in the loss.
Game 2
·     Lackawanna opened the scoring in game two off a solo home run to put them ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
·     The Mustangs added a pair of runs off a wild pitch and a fielder's choice to give them a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning.
·     Lackawanna then evened the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning off a sacrifice fly which scored one run.
·     In the top of the sixth inning, the Mustangs scored one run off an RBI triple by Reese Surratt to give the Mustangs a 3-2 lead.
·     Lackawanna countered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off an error and fielder's choice to give them a 5-3 lead.
·     The Mustangs went to town on offense, scoring nine runs in the top of the seventh inning off a pair of home runs by Kerris Johnson and Gabriella Prekpalaj and a pair of errors by Lackawanna to give the Mustangs a 12-5 lead.
·     Lackawanna added one more run in the bottom half of the inning, but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs took game two 12-6.
STATS AND NOTES
·     Johnson and Prekpalaj each tallied their first home runs of the year.
·     Lackawanna now leads the all-time series 12-9.
·     Sudaishely Hooi started in game two, allowing just two earned runs, and went four innings and struck out three batters.
·     Zoe Thomson started in game one, allowing just two earned runs and struck out five batters.
·     Surratt upped her hit streak to five games after tallying three in game one and one in game two.

·     The Mustangs return to action on Thursday, March 12, when they travel to Viera, Florida, to compete at the Space Coast Tournament. The first game starts at 10:00 a.m.
