NEW YORK – Monroe University Mustangs women's basketball sophomore guard Bre Jefferson was named the NJCAA Region 15 Women's Basketball Athlete of the Month on Friday night. This is Jefferson's first Athlete of the Month honor in her career.

In the nine games Jefferson played in February, she led the Mustangs in points (183), scoring average (20.3), field-goal attempts (160), field-goals made (72), and free-throws made (21).  On February 19 against Lackawanna College, Jefferson finished with a program single-game record 50 points. She also reached 1,000 career points mark through the last 48 games she played. Through the regular season, Jefferson sat second on the team in points (279), averaging a team leading 18.6 points per game while tallying 64 assists. 

Jefferson and the rest of the Mustangs women's basketball team return to action on Sunday, March 8 when they compete for the NJCAA Region 20 tournament title. Game-time is set for noon.
