Redmond Sets School Record at Rutgers Open, while Mustangs Excel

Freshman Analissa Redmond of the Monroe University women's indoor track and field team had a record-breaking day at the Rutgers Scarlet Knight Open at the Nike Amory Track Center on Friday, earning her spot at the 2026 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Topeka, KS.

Redmond was dominant in the Long Jump event, highlighting a phenomenal day for the Mustangs. The first-year native of Guyana jumped a distance of 5.82m in the championship section of the women's long jump. Her performance not only punched her ticket to the national championship, but it's also the farthest indoor jump in Mustang history, as well as a new school record. This performance also currently ranks her number four in the NJCAA across all divisions.

Freshman Keishwanna Phillip also turned in impressive performances in both the 60m dash and 60m hurdles. The first-year native of Grenada ran personal best times in both events to qualify for the national championships. In the 60mh, Phillip placed fifth overall with a time of 8.86, and in the 60m dash, she placed seventh overall with a time of 7.72. Freshman Zanya Belfon also ran the 60 dash and clocked a personal best time of 8.29.

A duo of Mustang sophomores competed in the 600m run and turned in impressive performances which qualified them for the national championships in the event. Sarah-Lea Cohen placed third overall in the event with a time of 1:35.48.

Cohen later competed in the 1000m, finishing sixth overall in a time of 3:03.43, which is a personal best time for her and also a national qualification to close out another solid outing.

The Mustangs also featured a duo in the indoor Pentathlon, sophomores Aleisha Clarke and Brinel Thomas competed in five events throughout the entire meet (60MH, High Jump, Shot-Put, Long Jump and the 800m), when it was all said and done Clarke placed fourth overall with a point total of 2827 (which currently has her ranked #7 across the NJCAA national qualification list. Thomas was seventh overall with a point total of 2392 (which currently has her ranked #16 across the NJCAA national qualification list). It must be noted that the top 16 in the NJCAA National ranking at the end of the season will qualify for the national championships for the event in Topeka, KS.

Freshman Latejah Bailey competed in the 400m. Bailey ran an indoor personal best time of 1:00.64.

A trio of Mustangs competed in the 200m. Sophomore Kaliyah Jones ran a personal best time of 25.21, freshman Latejah Bailey ran an indoor personal best time of 26.90, and freshman Zanya Belfon ran an indoor personal best time of 27.29.

The Mustangs will next compete on Saturday, February 14th, at the Boston University David Hemery Invitational.
