BOSTON - Freshman
Analissa Redmond, had a day to remember, competition in three events (Long Jump, 200m and 1600m relay) with less than an hour apart, Redmond posted a time of 24.89 in the 200m which qualifies her for the national championships. In the long jump Redmond placed third overall with a jumped of 5.68m at the national championships.
Freshman
Brooke Sheppard made her return to competition after a brief absence; Sheppard ran in the 1000m and clocked a time of 2:59.37 which is a personal best time for her and qualifies her for the National championship for the event.
Sophomore
Kaliyah Jones continued her impressive sophomore campaign, Jones posted a time of 56.22 in the 400m, which is also a personal best time for her and improved her ranking nationally for the event. Her performance now ranks her tenth on the NJCAA national qualification list for the event. Freshman
Latejah Bailey ran a time of 1:00.87 in the 400m.
Sophomore
Aleisha Clarke also improved her national rankings in the 60M Hurdles, she ran a time of 8.72 in the event, which is also a personal best time for her as well. Her time also currently ranks her eighth on the NJCAA national qualification list for the event.
Sophomores Sarah – Lea Cohen and
Tanesia Gardiner competed in the 800m run. Cohen ran a time of 2:16.01 and Gardiner ran a personal best time of 2:18.50 which also improved her ranking in the event nationally
A trio of Mustangs ran in the 60m freshman
Keishwanna Phillip turned in a strong performance in the 60m, running a time of 7.73 , sophomore
Brinel Thomas also turned in a strong performance in the 60m, running an indoor personal-best 7.77, just shy of the qualification standard. She also jumped 5.17m in the long jump as well. Freshman
Zanya Belfon ran a personal best time of 8.26.
The 1600m relay team of freshmen
Analissa Redmond,
Tanesia Gardiner,
Latejah Bailey and
Kaliyah Jones, rose to the challenge with one of the fastest performances of the day in the event. The quartet ran a time of 3:50.05, which is the second fastest time ran this season for the Mustangs. Redmond the jumps specialist opened the race with a 57.02 split on the first leg to set the tone. Gardiner the 800m specialist followed with a 58.13 split on the second leg. Bailey handled the third leg in 59.33 before handing the baton to Jones, who anchored the team in a time of 55.60.
The Mustangs will have one final tune up before traveling to Topeka, KS, for nationals. It will be the Fast Track Invitational on Friday, February 20, at 1:00 pm at Staten Island.
