HOW IT HAPPENED
Monroe set the tone early in the opening set, scoring the first four points and building an 8-1 advantage. A pair of kills from Liliana Barbierikova helped Monroe extend its lead, while Alisha Wells and Kristhaly Torres added key points down the stretch. Thais Vasquez delivered the set-clinching kill to give Monroe a 25-20 victory.
The Mustangs carried that momentum into the second set, using an early run to establish a 7-2 lead. Monroe continued to apply pressure offensively, with Wells, Torres and Milani Washington contributing kills. The advantage grew to 15-6 following consecutive points, and Monroe remained in command the rest of the way. A kill from Fabiana Lopez and a block by Vasquez and Alondra Diaz helped close out the 25-14 set victory.
Caldwell made its strongest push in the third set, keeping the score close throughout. Monroe opened with an early lead, but the Cougars continued to respond and eventually pulled within one point late.
