Men's Soccer Piles On Four Goals In Road Victory Over CCBC Essex

Baltimore, MD – The Monroe University men's soccer team emerged victorious at Division II No. 9 CCBC Essex, 4-1, on Saturday, marking the first win on the young season for the preseason top ten ranked program.

The Mustangs were fueled by sophomore Carmelo Bello as the attack overwhelmed the Knights with 24 total shots. Bello led the way with two goals, bookending the match with the first and fourth goal of the afternoon for the team.

All four goals were scored in the first half and were assisted on. Sophomore Kelvin Yengbie accumulated two assists. He was joined by assists courtesy of sophomore Reno Ishida and freshman Sebin Jung.

Sophomore Joao Victor De Araujo Ribeiro scored the opening goal of the match in the 3rd minute off a corner kick set up by Bello. Ishida headed the ball into the direction of De Araujo Ribeiro, who subsequently headed the volley into the back of the net.

In the 21st minute, Bello got on the board off a beautiful through ball from near-midfield by Jung to put the Mustangs up 2-0. Freshman Mohamed Lamine Mansare then added to the frenzy with an assist from Yengbie in the 42nd minute. Bello then capped off the scoring in the final minute of the half, securing his first brace as a Mustang.

The second half was quiet in the goal scoring department, but Monroe kept its foot on the gas with ten shots over the final 45 minutes. Jung ended the afternoon with a team-high six shots, while freshman Brunno Rhyan added on three total attempts at goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Thomas Lancaster earned his first career win in net, stopping two shots from Essex across his 90 minutes of play.

Monroe is on the board in 2025 and it will look ahead to its home opener on Saturday, September 13, at 7:00 pm against Division III No. 1 Mohawk Valley Community College.
