Council Bluffs, IA – The Monroe University men's soccer team saw its four-game win streak come to a close on Friday evening, suffering a 2-0 loss against No. 1 Iowa Western Community College.
The Mustangs had their chances as they matched the top-ranked Reivers in shots, including a 7-4 advantage in the first half. But an early goal from the home team had the upset-minded Mustangs fighting from behind for the remainder of the match.
Sophomore
Carmelo Bello matched freshman
Peterson Aquino in total shots with two. Aquino also mustered a shot on goal in just 15 minutes of action as the Brazil native looked to spark the Monroe offense.
Iowa Western scored six minutes into the game and 13 minutes out of the intermission, cutting short any jolts of momentum the Mustangs looked to carve out in this gargantuan showdown against two of the top teams in the country.
Monroe suffers a loss for the first time since its three-game trip to Florida to open the season. It will face another tall task in its next contest at No. 15 Harcum College on Friday, October 3, at 3:00 pm.
